Features to know about

Carry Everyday Gear with Confidence: Class III Strength for Light Towing and Racks

This hitch is built for everyday use, giving you 1,500 lbs of towing capacity and 150 lbs of tongue weight. It’s just right for hauling small trailers, carrying bikes, or adding a cargo carrier for weekend trips. The 2" receiver opening is the standard size most racks and ball mounts are made for, so your gear will fit without needing adapters or extra parts.

Install It Yourself in the Driveway: Bolt-On Design and No Drilling Required

You don’t need a lift or special tools to get this hitch installed. The bolt-on design uses standard hardware and the tools most folks already have in the garage. There’s no drilling or welding involved, and the frame-mounted fit means a solid connection that goes on cleanly under the bumper. It’s a straightforward project that’s friendly to solo DIYers.

Built to Last Through Weather and Use: Dual-Coated Steel Construction

The steel frame and welded construction give this hitch dependable strength while keeping things compact. A dual coating—liquid A-coat underneath and powder coat on top—protects against rust and road grime even through salty winters. Whether you’re towing or running a rack all year, it’s made to handle everyday conditions without wearing down fast.

Stay Safe on Every Haul: Tested to SAE J684 Standards

This hitch isn’t just rated—it’s tested and proven. Meeting SAE J684 standards means it’s been checked for strength, performance, and structural integrity under real-world towing conditions. You can load up your trailer or rack knowing the hitch is built to perform safely every time you head out.

Installed in 30 minutes. Is well built, so should get many years of use.

by:

The hitch arrived with one side bent out of true, and by quite a bit. It was bent on the passenger side by about 2 inches out of true. It was most likely missed during the pre-ship QC phase because the box was not damaged. Luckily I had my mechanic's shop install it so they had the tools needed to straighten the side out enough that it can be installed. Didn't look any worse for wear so as long as it still works and is still safe I'm fine.

Still, better QC process should be implemented, as should the packaging. A naked hitch sitting in a box doesn't inspire confidence, not with the way delivery services toss things around.

Had to drill bigger holes for bolts would not fit through the holes in the cars frame.

Easy to install and I really appreciate how fast you guys delivered to me!

by:

Extremely fast shipping. The company provided personal email updates without me even having to ask. Wonderful!

by:

Hardest part of the install was finding a large enough step drill, and orienting the thing by myself. Otherwise wouldve been a 5 minute job. Seems like itll work fine.

Thanks for the kind words, Joseph. We really appreciate it!

Received this hitch receiver damaged upon delivery. The left side of the frame is bent making the entire part impossible to install. Very disappointed. I emailed once and will email again about replacement. I will update if anything changes.

by:

Installing the bolts and spacers in the vehicle frame was easy. After the bolts were exposed, and the included fish wire was removed, I tied an 8 inch long tiny wire to each exposed thread as I was in fear of pushing the bolt up and losing it in the vehicle frame. Raising the hitch in position by one person on the ground was a bit awkward. I used jack stands to raise the hitch in position and loosely secured the nuts on one side. To my surprise, the hitch plate bolt thru holes on the other side were @ 1/2" away from meeting the vehicle frame bolts. I had to use a wood 2X4 crowbar to bend/force the mounting plate in position to catch the bolts.. Apparently the mounting bracket was slightly bent. It all worked well and I am satisfied with the hitch.

by:

This hitch installed on the back of a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek with only a small issue. Was able to tow a utility trailer with it the next day no problem. However, Please include more than 1 bolt fishing wire in the kit, 3 bolts in I could not get the fish to unthread from the bolt and I had to mess up the coil in order to get it off. Making it a little difficult to finish the last bolt.

by:

The hitch was well made with nice finish, The installation was a little challenging. It only came with one fish wire/spring to feed the bolt and plate through the frame. I wasn't able to remove the spring from the bolt without stretching it out of shape. On the demo video they had four wires to hold the bolts in while lifting the hitch into place. For that reason four stars

by:

First off, for I bought this only because it was the cheaper option and I'm only using it for a bike rack. However it seems built incredibly well and the finish is very nice.

I didn't have a die grinder but a Dremel did the job of opening the mounting holes. I gotta say the bolt fishing line that is included is genius. Install took maybe 30 mins. This also fit without removing my nameless axle back exhaust, which I was worried about.

I cannot recommend this hitch enough.

2021 Subaru Crosstrek
Installing this
hitch receiver kicked my butt. The product is well made but the installation instructions are less than clear.
The instructions rate installation as easy.
The fist difficulty is the note to 'expand hole' in the frame. The frame is hardened steel and the hole you need to expand is covered by exhaust piping. It took a while with a carbide bit but I finally got it.
Installing the bolts with the fish wire isn't difficult but the instructions do not show the front bolt needing the flat plat with the square hole. I figured this out after I had a bolt fished in. Without the plate, the bolt just spins. Getting the bolt out so that I could add the flat plate sucked.
Moving the welded receiver into place past the exhaust piping should be given an Olympic medal - or some kind of metal. Once in place, you have to very, very carefully lift it over the bolts. If your not careful, you'll push the bolts up into the frame channel and then you're screwed. There is way to get them out. Once you have the welded received up over the bolts, you have to hold it while trying to get the nuts started on the bolts. The welded received is not light.
The job is done now and I didn't damage the car or throw a wrench through a window.

Appreciate you sharing this Peter, the tip about the spacer plate is super helpful. Glad you got the hitch installed and no windows or tools were harmed in the process! lol

  • Comparing Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch to Curt Hitch for 2022 Subaru Crosstrek
Hey Josh, great question! The Trailer Mate # TMT94FR is a value brand from Curt. They use less steel in the construction of the hitch which is why it has the lower capacity. They also removed the collar on the receiver tube. I prefer the matte black, just like our etrailer # e98912, so that is really an added bonus. If you don't need the capacity of the Curt # C13382 and want to save some money this is a great option. It is still backed by a limited lifetime warranty so there isn't really...

  • Best Priced Trailer Hitch that fits 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Hey Amgor, our best priced 2 inch trailer hitch that fits your 2026 Subaru Crosstrek hybrid would be the Trailer Mate # TMT94FR. I know this is listed as saying it doesn't fit hybrids but it is exact same design as the Cur that does fit the hybrid models so it would work for you. How do you like the Chinook # S64683?

  • How Much Does a Hitch Weigh and Ground Clearance for a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek?
Hey Chris. The Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch item # TMT94FR weighs 25 lbs. It has been confirmed to fit the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek. The bottom of the receiver sits 11-1/2" above the ground. It has a 1,500 lbs towing capacity and 150 lbs maximum tongue weight. If you're worried about ground clearance the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch item # EH57CR has the best for a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek. The bottom of the receiver sits 12-3/4" above the ground. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a maximum...

  • Does Plastic Bumper Fascia On 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Need To Be Removed Or Trimmed For Hitch Install?
Dylan, no trimming needed here. The Trailer Mate # TMT94FR bolts right to the frame behind your bumper, nothing visible except the 2 inch receiver. The only “extra” step you might face is slightly enlarging the access holes with a die grinder to fishwire the carriage bolts into place. That’s standard on most Crosstrek hitches, along with many other vehicle's hitches. Do you already have a grinder handy, or should I suggest some alternatives? And Crosstrek owners reading, did you enlarge...

  • Is Trailer Mate Hitches Good Compared to etrailer And Curt Hitches For Subaru Crosstreks?
Nicole, good question. All three are quality hitches, but the Trailer Mate # TMT94FR (fits 2018-2026 Crosstrek non hybrid models) is positioned as a more budget-friendly option. It has the lowest weight ratings 1,500 lbs compared to Curt and etrailer’s 3,500 lbs. This will only matter if you have the Wilderness trim which has an increased weight rating and would then benefit from the Curt or etrailer hitch. If you don't have Wilderness, your Crosstrek has the standard 1,500lbs / 150lb tongue...

  • Is Trailer Mate Hitch Receiver For 2021 Crosstrek Easy To Install In Driveway DIY?
Rob, the trailer hitch receiver from Trailer Mate # TMT94FR for your 2021 Crosstrek is a driveway-friendly project (no welding required). You’ll remove the rubber plugs from the frame rails, fishwire the bolts and spacers into place, enlarge the access holes (a step-up drill bit is best), and torque everything down to 110 ft-lbs. A torque wrench and 3/4 inch socket are the main tools you’ll need. Most folks knock it out in under 2 hours. Do you have a buddy to help hold the hitch, or...

  • Finding 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2 Bike Rack On 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport
Sara, you’ll be all set. The Trailer Mate 2" # TMT94FR is rated for 150 lbs of tongue weight, which is plenty for a 2-bike rack plus a couple of standard bikes. Just keep in mind if you ever add heavier bikes such as e-bikes, you’ll want to double-check the combined weight and make sure you don't exceed 150lbs. Keep in mind your vehicle seems to have a tongue weight limit of 150lbs as well, so going with a different receiver will not increase that capacity. Have you already picked out...

  • Do I Need Stabilizing Strap For Bike Rack On Trailer Mate Hitch Receiver? Subaru Crosstrek
Henry, no you do not. For some of the class 1 receivers with the smaller 1-1/4" opening, Curt recommends a strap to keep the load steadier and reduce stress on the hitch. But for most 2" receivers, including the Trailer Mate # TMT94FR, you do not need anything at all. Just make sure you don't exceed the 150lb limit of tongue weight (downward force on the hitch). What year is your Crosstrek? This hitch fits 2018-2026. For other cyclists, does your rack feel more solid with a strap, or have...

  • Can I Pull Small Pop-Up Camper 1,200lbs With 2019 Crosstrek Using Trailer Mate 2" Hitch?
Chris, you’re right on the edge of what this hitch is designed for, but you'll be good to go. The Trailer Mate 2" receiver # TMT94FR is rated for 1,500 lbs towing and 150 lbs tongue weight, so your 1,200-lb camper is within spec as long as most of the cargo isn't on the tongue of the trailer exceeding 150lbs. The other limiter here is your Crosstrek Subaru generally rates these around 1,500 lbs max, so you’ll want to confirm in your owner’s manual. Do you already have a wiring harness...

  • Is 2 Inch Or 1-1/4" Hitch Better For 2025 Subaru Crosstrek?
Alan, the 2-inch receiver is the smarter choice. Most bike racks and cargo carriers are built for 2-inch these days, so you won’t be hunting for adapters. (also, most adapters cut the capacity in half so that's not ideal) The Trailer Mate # TMT94FR gives you the 2" size without adding bulk, and it’s still within the 2025 Crosstrek’s modest towing/tongue limits. Do you already have accessories that are 2-inch, or are you buying new? Crosstrek owners, have you found 2-inch to be the more...

  • Is There An Aftermarket Hitch For Cargo Carrier On 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
Absolutely, Matt. Cargo carriers are one of the Trailer Mate’s # TMT94FR best uses. Just keep the carrier and all your gear under 150 lbs total tongue weight. Load heavier gear toward the vehicle to reduce bounce, and if the carrier blocks your tail lights, you’ll want an auxiliary light kit plugged into a 4-way harness. Do you already have a wiring harness installed? And to other campers, what’s the heaviest load you’ve hauled on a Crosstrek carrier without issues? What are you favorite...

  • Does Hitch Install On 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Interfere With Spare Tire?
Luis, not at all. The spare stays put - the # TMT94FR hitch mounts to the frame rails and clears everything. You don't even need to lower the exhaust, which is required on a lot of hitch installs. Do you plan to tow or just run bike or cargo racks? I can help find anything else you might need for your adventures. And to our Crosstrek community, anyone have any difficulty installing a hitch on any trim levels of the Crosstrek? I do know the wilderness trim might have an extra step in there.

  • How Does Trailer Mate 2023 Crosstrek Hitch Hold Up In Minnesota Winters With Road Salt?
Lindsey, good thinking ahead. This hitch # TMT94FR from Trailer Mate has a dual coating powder coat on top of a liquid A-coat that seals inside and out. That layered protection holds up well to winter salt. As with any hitch, it’s smart to rinse it off when you can and touch up scratches with flat black spray paint if it ever gets scraped.
